MU International Trade Center interns impress, Center earns 2022 Best Practices Award

Sixteen MU and Trulaske College of Business students interning with the MU International Trade Center shared findings from the semester-long global market research projects on April 29, 2022, with four Missouri companies each seeking to expand their sales internationally. The students completed extensive research to identify and evaluate international markets with sales potential for each participating company.

On Monday, April 12, the Trulaske College of Business recognized excellence among faculty, staff and PhD students at its annual Celebration of Success event. Held in Memorial Union on the MU campus, the gathering showcased excellence in service, teaching and research, and honored those celebrating milestone anniversaries at the university. Phi Beta Lambda chapter dominates state competition, all competing students qualify for nationals

On April 9, Phi Beta Lambda, a professional student organization dedicated to bringing business and education together, had its first in-person state competition since 2019 at Missouri State University in Springfield. Eight students competed and brought home 17 top-five finishes in the state awards, including seven first-place finishes, three second-place finishes, four third-place finishes, one fourth-place finish and two fifth-place finishes.

Mizzou DECA Makes School History at International Career Development Conference

Last week, 19 University of Missouri Collegiate DECA members traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, to compete in the 2022 Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference. For the first time in Mizzou DECA history, every student who attended qualified for finals and won in the top 10 of their category. Mizzou Collegiate DECA Advisor Lindsay Hing said over 850 students from hundreds of higher education institutions across the United States and the United Kingdom were at the competition.

President and CEO of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank discusses economy and inflation during visit to MU

James Bullard, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank St. Louis, visited the University of Missouri last week to discuss the economy, monetary policy and the Federal Reserve's response to inflation. In his presentation “Is the Fed behind the Curve? Two Interpretations," Bullard said that U.S. inflation is exceptionally high and is comparable to inflation in 1974 and 1983. He shared that the Taylor-type monetary policy rules recommend substantial increases in the policy rate and that more information will be known after the Federal Reserve meets in May.

As the world reached the second anniversary of the formal declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organization, there is consensus among scientists and policymakers that the return to pre-pandemic life unavoidably entails the widespread application of vaccines and the use of effective, newly authorized antivirals. Uncertainty about the next stages of the pandemic remains, but it is clear that the world would be in a significantly worse condition, both economically and from a public health perspective, without mRNA vaccines like those for COVID-19 and other therapeutics.

Students and employers meet and compete at BCS Networking Golf Tournament

Business Career Services had an excellent turnout for the BCS Networking Golf Tournament at A. L. Gustin Golf Course on Friday, April 8. Despite a high temperature of 39 degrees and snow flurries scattered throughout the day, the students and employers showed up ready to play. In total, over 40 students competed in the tournament, with the primary goal of providing networking opportunities. Each team consisted of two Trulaske students and two employers, with BCS pairing students with employers that recruit from their respective emphasis areas.
