First Steps for the First Generation
As a first generation student, the transition to Mizzou is exciting and sometimes challenging. The Heartland Scholars Academy helps to ease this transition for first-generation, rural students by supporting them with the tools and skills needed to achieve academic success at Mizzou. In addition the academy provides them with exposure to the business world through a variety of activities over four years.

Assistance with business attire and opportunity to participate in professional events are just the beginning. Participants in the Heartland Scholars Academy also have access to additional financial support through scholarships, dedicated advisors and career coaches, supportive Trulaske faculty and staff, and special seminars focused on business cases, student success and professional speakers.
The Wider Business World
Furthermore, Heartland Scholars Academy participants are eligible for program-specific scholarships and have the opportunity to participate in corporate trips to locations such as Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago.

If you’re a first generation student from a rural area, the Heartland Scholars Academy can help you take your first steps at Mizzou. Before applying to the Heartland Scholars Academy, incoming first-year students must be accepted into Mizzou, designating business as their major, and have a minimum 3.25 high school GPA.
